Today we are going to talk about staying in the moment. Remaining present to appreciate the right-now. The moment could mean this minute, this week, this year…or this time in your life in general.
- We are focusing on goals when we should be focusing on the current moment…because it might be the goal!
- We keep focusing on the larger legacy. What if the legacy is the life you’re living right now?
  - This life right now is magical
  - All your trials and tribulations are right where you’re supposed to be so savor it
  - The strongest way for you to show up in this life is to love you: who you are, where you are, what you are right now; not who you will be, where you will be, what you will accomplish in the future
  - You are currently sitting inside someone’s dream. You don’t know their name but this was their everyday work and art
- Survival vs. thrival
  - We’ve passed on the psychological legacy of survival so we never consider what thriving is
  - We have to reshape what thriving is so we can then teach that to our children
- We teach others that - to be a good person - we have to pour into others
  - Why don’t we make the effort to savor the moment and purposely pour into ourselves?
  - We struggle to be good to ourselves, but fight to be good to others
- We think of ourselves as masters of our lives, but don’t slow down to learn our own lessons
  - We tell others it is your right to slow down, to say no, to prioritize you…and then we don’t do it
- We insist the world needs us…if we don’t slow down and savor the moments, we won’t be here in the world to share our gifts with the world
  - Slow EVERYTHING in life down
  - Mystify this moment in a way that you recognize how important it is to be here, alive, in this second, minute, time with other people who are also here, alive, in this second, minute, and time. There’s a reason for this 7 billion people to be here versus tomorrow’s 7 billion
- If we don’t start savoring and honoring these moments, we will get to the end of our lives and realize we have not lived them
  - We get caught up in the perfectionism of it all. Am I raising perfect children? Am I working perfectly at my job? Am I the perfect friend?
  - Perfectionism means there is no room for improvement
  - Therefore, perfectionism means the end or death of a thing
  - There is a time and a place for perfection. It is at completion. Prior to that, we are still in our editing and revising stages. First we do the brainstorming, the vision boarding, then the writing. All those original messy parts were necessary to complete the masterpiece novel that I’m writing. It’s ok if you are in the vision board era of your life. Savor it.
  - Savoring the moment is in the messy. This is the part we shouldn’t be afraid to share. If I’m always focused on the finality of a thing, I can’t give the current moment its just due.
  - People put things down because they feel it’s not perfect right away. It’s not supposed to. Your life isn’t perfect until it’s over.
